I am ready for an extended visit with the Coliseum.

The hilarious remake of The Front Page is a Howard Hawks gem starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. The Columbia folks are giving this one special edition treatment with audio commentary from film critic Todd McCarthy and four shorts about "Friday." Here's hoping that the transfer elements have been to the beauty parlor.

As the political season heats up, Artisan is releasing a special edition of Bob Roberts (10/17/00). Tim Robbins' satire on a political race makes great use of the director/writer's own star power. Catch Robbins in the title role and delivering an audio commentary.

Director Wolfgang Petersen provides audio commentary on the special edition DVD of The Perfect Storm (11/14/00). Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby partner with Vera Ellen and Rosemary Clooney in White Christmas (11/21/00), the 1954 VistaVision musical directed by Michael Curtiz. Irving Berlin's signature song and the title of the film originated with the composer's Holiday Inn, a musical also starring Bing Crosby. Paramount is releasing the film as a special edition DVD including audio commentary, a making of short and two theatrical trailers. I'm dreaming of a grand transfer......

Another in the film collaborations of director Werner Herzog and actor Klaus Kinski, Cobra Verde (10/10/00), the 1987 film debuts on DVD from Anchor Bay in anamorphic 16 x 9 widescreen. Check out the raw power of Kinski under the spell of Herzog. Featuring audio commentary from Herzog.
